Austin was 13 when diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia.
We are a family with an awesome 13 year old son that was diagnosed on August 3, 2018 with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. Austin was an active baseball player all summer and was conditioning for the upcoming football season when he became very symptomatic from being severely anemic. This led to the testing and results that changed our lives forever. Austin is smart, caring, and full of love. He never complains about having to endure so much. He inspires everyone he knows. He loves to hunt and fish and play sports.
Austin reached the maintenance phase of his treatment on August 22,2019 and was able to return to school. It has been hard for him to adjust to being in school again. Being a teenager, these days is hard enough without having cancer. He will hopefully be able to start back playing baseball again this school year.
The diagnosis has affected our family in so many ways. It has taken so much from Austin’s childhood that we can’t get back. He has spent more time in the hospital in one year than most people do in their entire lives.
We also have an 18-year-old daughter who is a freshman in college. Taylor has had a really hard time coping with Austin having Leukemia. She is a loving sister who wants her baby brother to be healthy and happy. She has decided to become a nurse.
This journey has been an emotional roller-coaster. We have stayed strong in our faith and know God is in control however we still have the same fears that all parents with a child with cancer has. Fear of relapse or other complications are always in the back of our mind.
Austin is handling his treatments like a warrior. We are taking one day at a time and look forward to finishing his treatment in November of 2020. Last Christmas was a challenging time for our family. Austin was in the hospital a lot during the holiday season. He was released from the hospital 3 days before Christmas.
The support and prayers from everyone have been amazing. We appreciate people like you who care about the happiness of our special children. May God Bless you and your family in the months to come!!!!
